Dubh – My Dark Rosaleen
A Concert of Irish and Spanish Traditional Music.
Some of Ireland’s premier musicians have come together to
produce a magnificant concert of Irish traditional songs and tunes
mixed with Spanish folk music. These are songs that tell the tale
of Rebellion and Uprising, Passion and Devotion from 1798 to the
1916. Traditional Irish Masters Johnny McCarthy and Pat Crowley
have joined with Soprano Emma Kate Tobia and classical guitarist
Jerry Creedon to produce a show that will lift the heart with powerful
stories of our heritage and our Spanish neighbours. Come to hear
Róisín Dubh, Óró ‘s é Do
Bheatha ‘Bhaile, The Spanish Lady, Mná na hEireann
along with Folk Songs such as Cancion, El Pano Moruno and many more.
All of these pieces have been arranged by the musicians specifically
for these concerts and their combined expertise adds a unique flavour
to the music.

About the Performers:
Pat Crowley:
Pat has performed and recorded for many years with some of the world’s
best known musicians including Mary Black, Joan Baez, Noel Brazil,
Cara Jones, Christy Moore, Declan Sinnott to name but a few. He
has toured worldwide with the Mary Black band and she says that
she sings differently to different instrumentation. “My piano
player, Pat Crowley,” she says, “has played with me
for nearly twenty years. He has a really individual style, and in
many ways, it has become the ‘Mary Black’ sound. He
has an album out with Dara records called “Fools Dream”
which he recorded with Johnny McCarthy. A Legend!
Emma Kate Tobia:
Singer Emma -Kate Tobia hails from Westport, Co Mayo, and now lives
in Kinsale Co Cork. Emma-Kate is a classically trained soprano who
melds her pure lyrical voice with the timeless melodies of her Irish
heritage. She is a multiple award-winning artist who has a grá
or love for Irish Song which is reflected in her Debut CD, ‘Aisling
na nGael’ (An Irish Dream). The CD is a combination of Classical
and Traditional songs mostly sung “as Gaeilge”.
Initially embraced by the New York Irish, Emma-Kate is currently
breaking out nationally in the USA with her CD which is getting
radio airplay in cities across the country including Boston, Pittsburgh,
New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, Colorado, Texas,
as far west as Washington and is being streamed on many Internet
sites. She has been interviewed on radio, featured by WFUV, her
CD has been reviewed in The Boston Irish Reporter, Irish America
Magazine, The Irish Emigrant and she has been on the cover of The
Irish Examiner, USA. Emma-Kate was interviewed on national television
on WNBC on St. Patrick’s Day in NY where she was also invited
to help the ring the bell at the NY Stock Exchange. She embarked
on her first tour of the USA in December ’09 performing in
19 different cities from Chicago to Florida in a Classic Irish Christmas
Tour. March 2010 saw Emma Kate perform outside the New York Stock
Exchange that was televised along with her video opening the New
York St Patrick’s Day Parade TV coverage on NBC. She then
went on her first solo tour in the USA called An Irish Dream, which
included cities in Maine, Rhode Island and Boston’s own Burns
Library, at Boston College accompanied by violinist Gregory Harrington
and pianist Isabelle O’Connell.
Emma Kate will be recording her second album this year and will
include some new, unrecorded songs by some of Irelands finest songwriters
written especially for her. A series of Roisín Dubh Concerts
in 2010 in the National Concert Hall, the Grainstore at Ballymaloe,
Cork and St Catherines Church, Kinsale with other dates and venues

Jerry Creedon:
The lrish guitarist Jerry Creedon was born in Cork and has studied
guitar from a young age. After graduating from University College,
Cork, he studied with the famed German guitarist Siegfried Behrend
in Germany; a Spanish Government Scholarship enabled him to study
at the Andres Segovia Summer School in Santiago de Compostela; the
Irish Arts Council grant-aided him to attend master classes given
by world-famous virtuoso John Williams in Cordoba. Jerry is currently
a lecturer in guitar studies at the Cork School of Music. He participated
at the October 2001 Guitar Foundation of America International Convention
and Competition in San Diego, California.
Jerry is an experienced musician and has performed in Ireland, Germany
and Spain, both as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has appeared
with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles and has his own Jazz
Ensemble with which he performs at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.
He has performed at the National Concert Hall, Universities, and
numerous Festivals. Jerry has recorded CDs of music by Sanz, Pujol
and Villa-Lobos.
He is currently a member of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival Committee.
Jerry has recently recently returned from performing and giving
Masterclasses in Trieste, Italy.
A prominent force on the the Irish guitar scene for over twenty
years, Jerry Creedon is critically acclaimed for his accomplishments
as a performer, arranger, teacher, lecturer and impresario.

Johnny McCarthy
Johnny McCarthy began playing music at an early age under the influence
of his grand parents. From a traditional Irish music beginning,
in his teens he explored the world of classical music and studied
at the Cork School of Music. He later studied at the Conservatorium
und Music Hochschüle in Zürich, Switzerland under professor
of flute, Jean Poulain.
Johnny McCarthy is widely known throughout Ireland and Europe as
a highly accomplished musician in both classical and Irish traditional
music. As lecturer at the Cork School of Music (CIT), Johnny’s
duties as lecturer in flute, ethnomusicology and music technology
are highly acclaimed. As an academic, he has an MA from the Irish
World Music Centre and has delivered papers in Ireland, England,
France, Switzerland and America. As a musician Johnny has featured
as both soloist and as a member of many ensembles on prominent platforms.
He has performed as soloist with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and
has recorded with such artists as Antonio Breschi, Mícheál
Ó Súilleabháin, The Four Star Trio, John Gibson
and many others. His compositional collaboration with well known
pianist Pat Crowley, in the production of their highly acclaimed
album entitled, ‘Fool’s Dream’ is seen as a landmark
production in Irish traditional music.
